My Camera Equipment
Here's a quick summary of the equipment I own. I'll put more here
later.
- Canon EOS-5 (European/Japanese version of the A2E)
- Canon 28-105/3.5-4.5 zoom lens
- Canon 50/1.8 prime lens
- Bogen-Manfrotto 3205 (Black model 3001) Tripod Legs
- Bogen-Manfrotto 3262QR Ball Head
- HP Photosmart Film Scanner (old version)
- Some Cokin and Tiffen filters
Epson Stylus Photo 870, Windows 2000 Professional, and Adobe Photoshop
It's now 28 Nov 2000. Of course I'd get new stuff. But what
I'm really here to say is that I had major problems
getting the Epson 870 printing from Adobe Photoshop 5.5 under
Windows 2000. It may have something to do with the Canon PowerShot
S100 Digital Elph software also installed on the machine (Still Image
Service). Here's what I did to get printing working:
- Close Photoshop if it's open
- Make sure the printer is not attached to the computer
- Stop the Still Image Service ''StiSvc'' by going to
Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services and clicking
stop on Still Image Service
- Plug in the printer and turn it on
- Now you can start Photoshop
- Disable/Uncheck ''Printer Color Management'' in the
Photoshop Print dialog - This solves the
''-36 Disk...'' error
- Disable ICM profile in the printer (not sure if this is necessary)
- Disable/Uncheck ''Enable advanced printing features'' from
the ''Advanced'' tab in Printer Properties. (Open the
Printers folder, right click on the 870, select Properties,
Click the Advanced tab, uncheck that box. Also not sure
if this is necessary)
- You might want to decrease the amount of available memory
to photoshop under preferences. This enabled me to print under
PhotoDeluxe (another Adobe program).
- Note that if you want to be able to plug in a digital camera
and have it automatically recognized by the machine, you're gonna
have to restart the Still Image Service.
I'd better mention the dreaded Epson 870/1270 Orange Shift problem (see this
link too).
Hey, Ilford paper is pretty cheap at B&H Photo.
You may want to look at the Epson x7x Printer group on yahoo.
Finally, Amazon.com, Onvia.com, and Buy.com seem to have decent prices on
ink. Probably best to check
CNET Shopper for the best prices
today.
